"Backpack Sciences’ lessons are a life saver. They provide clarity and a foundation to my science curriculum. This allows me to be free to authentically engage with my students rather than thinking ahead about “What am I going to do next?” They have also given me my weekends back. Thank you, Jackie, for giving me a breath of fresh air and confidence. "

Jackie's first career was as a wildlife biologist in Colorado, New York, and Cameroon after a university study abroad in Kenya. Through her 21 years of teaching experiences at many different schools, observation of her own children's education and now guiding adults earning their teaching credentials, she hopes to lessen the gaps in science education with inquiry-based, hands-on, experiential higher level learning. Her work as an instructional guide with adults in a teacher education program guarantees she's skilled to move you forward in your success path.
Each lesson plan will include printable presentation materials, photos to help visualize the lesson, a support video, a follow-up activity and ideas to further expand on the subject.
Each lesson is aligned to Next Generation Science Standards.
"The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are K–12 science content standards. Standards set the expectations for what students should know and be able to do. The NGSS were developed by states to improve science education for all students.
A goal for developing the NGSS was to create a set of research-based, up-to-date K–12 science standards. These standards give local educators the flexibility to design classroom learning experiences that stimulate students’ interests in science and prepares them for college, careers, and citizenship."
If the written description, photos and videos don't answer or clarify your questions, send an email or post in our private Facebook group. In addition to my input, we can use our community to help.
Honestly, where else can you get direct access to the creator of the lesson plan and ask for more help?!
You know your child or students the best. The lesson plans are a guideline. You do not need to follow each step-by-step exactly. I've included higher level facts in a different color font.
"Science is a subject I love, but I have zero skill in compiling lessons for my children. Jackie has a knack for making science fun, informative and interesting. I enjoyed the "Scientific Mindset" mini-course because it was easy to follow and apply. Jackie will always make sure to answer your questions. If you would like your children or students to love science, then I highly recommend Jackie."
